Welcome to our island
Located 36 nautical miles (67 kms) North of Palermo, and surrounded by very deep waters, Ustica, because of the color of its volcanic rocks, has been called the “Black Pearl of the Mediterranean.” The small town centre (about 1300 inhabitants) is built above the main harbor. Piazza Umberto I and Piazza della Vittoria are the main centre of the town, linking the port to the rest of the island. Above them, the City Hall, the bus terminal and the beginning of the island beltline road.
The island has both a marine protected area created as early as 1986 (see: www.ampustica.it) and a land reserve, effectively protecting both land and sea. Unique opportunities for unforgettable experiences including deep and night diving, trekking, birdwatching etc...
Trip Advisor has recognized Ustica as one of the top ten Italian Travellers’ Choice Top Island 2016. They say of us: <<Thanks to its volcanic history, the island of Ustica offers awesome opportunities for deep diving. Notable sites include Scoglio del Medico and Grotta dei Gamberi. Snorkelers can explore Grotta Azzurra, Grotta Verde, and Grotta delle Barche. There are plenty of dive centres that can offer guided trips to all of these watery hotspots.... >>
